The World Of TomorrowOctober 10th 2017
Arcrylic on Canvas 3ft x 3ft The World of Tommorow is a piece that was heavily inspired by the problems that we have now that pay impact us in the future. This includes War, Nuclear Bombs, Global Warming/Climate change and loss of human existence. I had also added up some other things in this piece that was executed by the works of Salvador Dali’s Peesistance or Memory which has included a big wide empty space around it which creates some sort of depth effect.
PlanningWhen I was first planning to create this piece, I wanted to make something that standee out from the rest of the crowd, something that’s vivid and expresses the mood to who ever sees it. By having these standards I was able to figure out an artist’s who created a piece that sent out many messages. Salvador Dali was a surrealist artist who has been very well known for his pieces which also includes the persistence of memory. Also during his childhood he had an older brother who passed way after he was born who also went by the name of Salvador Dali. According to Salvador Dali’s parents, they considered the Salvador Dali that we know today as a reincarnation of the original since they both had similar thoughts and ideas which is quite unusual from a normal person’s perspective. This has lead to the surrealist views that we see in his paintings today. As for my painting I planned to use this idea and style to create that stands out with expression and vivid colors just like how Salvador Dali did.
When I was creating my original piece, I decided to plan it out and see what issues that we faced in the world today that may affect us in the near future, From what I have thought of my final ideas that I had based off this was Nucleae War, Climate Change, and Racial Discrimination or the lack of civil rights. With these factors I have created the base structure on what I wanted to do for my piece. Notes from Sketchbook
Initial Ideas -Nuclear Explosion (Sketch #1) Helps symbolize the idea on possibly of Nuclear War or any sort of war in the world -Shifted Elemental Climate (Sketch #2) Produces the empathesis on climate change and the negetive tributes to global warming and natural disasters -Inequalities (Sketch #3) Some of these include racial, gender, and much more inequalities to people with certain genetic traits that cannot be changed even though we are the same people on the inside. |

Process

This was a personal challenge for me in my piece due to the fact that this was the first time I was creating a large self portrait again and learning how to blend well with my piece for the first time. So what I have done was first build my canvas , then I applied the geeso to help prime the canvas, as it was drying I opened up photoshop to begin sketching my foundation of the piece which was my face with a ton of shadows mixed in with a skeleton’s skull in order to have that effect. Then I added a melting structure to my face to develop a melting like face that reveals my skull almost has if I’m melting from this impact making it seem like a terrible thing which brought me close to death. After that I began sketching my piece, as compared to my earlier self portraits this was a major change on how I created my piece which are now in full 3D form instead a basic 2d popart as was formerly known as. Then finally after adding a ton of detail to the piece I have began working around the melting part. To me this was a major challenge due to the fact that this melting part was orginally going to include a few mixes of my face but soon needed up as a melting skin look instead which was much more easier to perform compared to the original plan. Which yet again still made the piece sill have that dark and eeeie tone that I was looking for.

Reflection
Overall I have felt like I have done an amazing job on creating the overall mood to this piece and the vast amount of detail that I have created has really made the piece popping alof more than I expected which is a good thing. Also a lot of people who noticed me with this piece while I was walking around with it have noticed the amount of detail and have stated that this piece really sends a message which is a positive thing for me since I know for sure that this piece is doing the job that I was intending it to do. I’m also proud that this piece was a huge success on the improvement from last years self portrait which was inspired by Andy Warhol’s popart and has made a huge improvement when it came to detail and fine lines. The only thing I feel that needs a change is the detail on the facial features since I personally feel like it’s a little flat when compared to the rest of the 3D structure to the piece.

ACT Questions
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork?
I was able to clearly explain this idea through the use of color pallete and the the mood that this piece gives in order to empathize a strong feeling on what this piece is conveying. This is something very similar on how Salvador Dali was able to express his piece through surrealism as well.
What is the overall approach (pov) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The overall approach to this piece was to relate to Salvador Dali's piece based off his childhood which was dark enough since he has went through tough times by noticing his brother died before he was born, and his pieces express his feelings towards things in society and in other places, while for me I'm empathizing the idea of the future of this world and the many problems that have long term affects on us.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
The overall generalization that I have found in this piece is related to the problems we face today such as the risk of Nuclear War, climate change leading into harsh natural disasters, and even the environment in general is completely destroyed by these factors thus leaving nothing, but a blank space of emptiness around us.
What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The general idea of this piece is death and destruction, and the many long terms events that we face today that could possibly end the human race of tomorrow. Also many people will say that the future will be great with all of these technological advances, but with all the things going on in the world today, there won't be a tomorrow to look forward to
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
The inferences that I have made was that Salvador Dali had a rough life and with these many factors affecting him, these have lead up to the causes that have affected his life into his paintings.
