The Silent Tree
Inspiration
|
How I got inspired to create this piece was through the works of Monet. Monet uses many different colors or hues in order to fill up different lines and colds which soon creates the shape completes the piece as a whole. Some of the work I am specifically inspired from was mainly from his Haystacks series as well as San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk. These paintings were the ones that stuck out the most for me because of the fact that they tend the use the colors of the environment, and the pallet choice lets you know whether it’s dawn, day, or dusk.

Planning
When I was planning to create this piece I had to decide on some things in order to allow me to create the piece successfully. Some of these things have included; What environment should I paint and why? What colors am I going to use? Why am I painting these objects in certain areas (otherwise known as composition). These factors have allowed me to decide on what to do for my final sketch. The 3 sketches that I have designed were based off different locations that I have visited before in real life. One sketch includes a beach-like horizon by South Shore Park here in Wisconsin, A cliffside Park at the Revere Nature Center, and another shore from Bradeford Beach. Then I have decided on the pallet choice to mainly on dawn since the vast majority of Monet’s work has been Dawn and has painted his pieces specifically around that time. After creating the three sketches it was time to moving on the action phase, otherwise known as the Process and experimentation phase.

Process
Experimentation
Some of the new things I have experimented on this project is through the use of new details. In my older pieces, my objects were shaded very well, but they lacked any sort of actual detail which lowers the quality of the piece by a little bit. But then, I learned how to paint the details on greenery such as trees and grass. These new details allow the piece to gain dimensions as well as raise the quality of the piece which makes it seem to have a higher craftsmanship compare to the previous pieces. The first thing I have done to begin the piece is begin stretching the canvas and letting it dry in order to start painting. I have soon started to change the idea on how I wanted to be. Instead of being just some simplistic landscape painting. I have soon implemented the recurring theme into this piece as well which as through the use of negativity. So the clouds that were placed onto the piece were seen as clouds at first but then were soon turned into clouds from a forest fire that was seen behind the main tree in the front. What this has created was a whole new meaning to the piece and allows it to not stick out from the crowd of my other pieces. The next thing I have done is applied the base cost throughout all of my objects in order to have a completely filled canvas while at the same time have a nice start on what colors similar to the base coat to add into the piece itself. Then what has happened later on is that the piece eventually began to take shape and soon learned how to add details similar to Monet’s art style and has soon completed the piece. |

Reflection
Overall I have felt like I have done a good job on creating a highly detailed piece, but there are some things that I wish to change in the near future or the next time I decide to paint a piece. One of these includes the similarities to my work and Monet’s since there are some aspects that I myself felt like I didn’t touch upon such as the use of his style completely as well as the meaning of his pallets since at first I just used solid bright colors which have soon developed into a layered darker coat, but overall I have placed a ton of detail into this piece compared to the first painting I have created which was the self portrait back from Junior year, this proves that I have came a long way from when I didn’t know how to paint to how I paint now.

Connection to ACT
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork?
I was able to clearly explain this idea through the use of color pallete and the the mood that this piece gives in order to empathize a strong feeling on what this piece is conveying. This is something very similar on how Salvador Dali was able to express his piece through surrealism as well.
What is the overall approach (pov) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The overall approach to this piece was to relate to Salvador Dali's piece based off his childhood which was dark enough since he has went through tough times by noticing his brother died before he was born, and his pieces express his feelings towards things in society and in other places, while for me I'm empathizing the idea of the future of this world and the many problems that have long term affects on us.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
The overall generalization that I have found in this piece is related to the problems we face today such as the risk of Nuclear War, climate change leading into harsh natural disasters, and even the environment in general is completely destroyed by these factors thus leaving nothing, but a blank space of emptiness around us.
What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The general idea of this piece is death and destruction, and the many long terms events that we face today that could possibly end the human race of tomorrow. Also many people will say that the future will be great with all of these technological advances, but with all the things going on in the world today, there won't be a tomorrow to look forward to
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
The inferences that I have made was that Salvador Dali had a rough life and with these many factors affecting him, these have lead up to the causes that have affected his life into his paintings.
