"New Earth"
Exhibition Text
"New Earth" is a piece heavily inspired by the works of industrial/technological revolution. The meaning behind the piece is showing how every single thing that we use in our common everyday lives such as Smart Phones, Computers, Elevators, Cars, and even Electricity in General has all came from their ancient roots of the Stone Age where we have early advances like the invention of the wheel which is completely made out of stone that was carved from a once simple ordinary rock.

Inspiration
Inspiration
The inspiration behind this piece was heavily inspired by Man Ray's Work. Man Ray is an artist who enjoyed making work based off of Found Object type of Artwork, Even though some of his work took basically no time of effort whatsoever, he has given that small piece a meaning overall. This is not only important to Found Object, it can be also important to Organic vs Industrial as well where we can use this idea to give a "basic" art piece a huge meaning behind it. One of Man Ray's pieces on the left "Indestructible" captures the whole meaning to the piece with the metronome and the cut out eye that reflects off a surrealist type of feel. Experimentation When I began experimenting with this project. I started thinking of common everyday objects that average person uses as well as think up some other things that seem industrial such as nails, saw blades, and even wood in general. This was quite a bit hard to come up with because of the amount of time it takes to get those objects and find a way to make them explain or tell the audience the meaning of this piece and why it is shaped in that form. |
Planning
Planning Sketches
When I was creating these planning sketches I had to first think about what I am doing and what am I trying to say to the audience overall. With these ideas in my head I had to as well be thinking about the concept that is being shown to the viewer. In order to successful do that, I need to think of my self as the viewer myself and see what I am thinking of when seeing this. In sketch #1 i had created bird out of circuits and wires that are also part of the buttons too. The only flaw is the design itself, just because it is shown as a bird, doesn't mean that others will see it the same way as I do. The second sketch shows a piece of wood that is hammered down by nails with saw blades hammered down with it shaping it into a tree that is well known as a major organic material here on earth as a necessary resource. The third one was mainly supposed to be a piece of metal that is crushed inwards that sorta reshapes it into a diamond or any other rare jewels/gems. |

Process
When it comes to designing this, I first needed the necessary materials in order to come up with the main design of the overall piece. This piece was originally going to be based off Sketch #1 but one of the many obstacles that i had encountered with this was that I didn't get the shape I wanted. So what I did was reshape it to a tree like in sketch #2 . With both of these concepts moved together. They have allowed me to create a form that is mixed between sketch #1 and #2 combined. This also allowed me to explain the meaning in a much more broader way when compared to them individually. |
Reflection
Overall I have felt that I have done a very good job when trying to explain the overall meaning to the piece. Even though, it may see minimalistic or even just plain basic in general, it still does explain the overall meaning very well. I could've used and experimented with other materials such as wire or any other metallic/electric material that can help me be able to shape this in a 3D form that can be able to stand on it's own, but other than that I have felt that I have done a great job overall.
