"Across The Ocean"
Exhibition Text
"Across the Ocean" was heavily inspired by Van Gogh's famous art piece "Starry Night" which has featured the main key concept of Movement and how movement can show how we follow the movement as our eyes move around the piece. This was inspired by how I describe my life being very open and vast as well as reaching my highest point of accomplishments while looking down to see how I made it this far in life which is shown throughout this art piece.

Planning
Inspiration
My inspiration for my art piece was deeply inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's art piece called "Starry Night" . This piece is a popular painting of Van Gogh's due to the fact that it shows deeply within the the oil on the canva movement and constant flow which makes our eyes constantly wonder all throughout the piece. This was one of the main factors that I needed to recreate on my dry point in order to be successful. My goal in this was to take one of the elements of this painting and recreate the structure of that style on to my dry point, and so my project begins. About the Artist Vincent Van Gogh was well known for his many works in the art world. His work consist of the use of oil pastels which lead to the Impressionism art period. He was born on March 30, 1853 in the Netherlands and died on July 29, 1890 at the age of 37. He did not only paint paintings of scenery. He created other things in the art world such as still lifes, portraits, self portraits, and landscapes. More Information can be founded here |
Planning Sketches
What I did for my planning sketch was create a simplistic scenery to give off that same mood and feeling as the scenery used in starry night which has lead to the basic start of the project. The basic plan for this was to try something new and use Photoshop to make drawings this time but then it back fired due to the fact that the dry point requires lots of detail and thin lines are the only thing we are able to make. The second picture shown was a much more detailed version of the sketch compared to the above which can help me replicate the dry point itself. This is the final sketch that was used to create the dry point, when I was trying to recreate the same movement and scenery that Van Gogh did to create starry night. |
Process
Process
During the course of this project I was on my way to create this art piece. I need to show process in order to display the piece but due to the transparency of the dry point it was hard to display the process without any glare or reflection going through the piece overall was a major part of the project. During this process it was pretty hard for the making straight lines of the piece as well as make it aligned to the paper as neatly as possible. This was a difficult task to do because you really got to eyeball it and make sure you don't press too hard where it can stamp itself twice on to the paper and make a ghost image on the sheet which can be quite stressful sometimes.

Experimentation
While I was working on this piece I soon stumbled on to a problem where it was hard to make straight line in my dry point which has lead me into an obstacle. My solution to this was to experiment and practice straight lines by adding textures on to my cliff to create shading for my piece as well as replicate cross hatching to my piece and make much more accurate and precise straight lines to help my piece stick out. And as well as add more movement to the sky and water to help give my piece much more texture.

Printing
During the printing process I was experiencing trouble when the making of this piece was quite confusing at first because and then after I got the printing process down I decided upon how much ink that I need to create a nice dark prints without making too much ink splotch all over the print itself |
Reflection
Overall I felt that I did a very good job upon the creation and process of my piece, and that I really shown my meaning and as well as shown the piece and as well as worked on and completed my piece with little to no mistakes which has help my piece gain a much more better look and style where it really captures the meaning of the piece. I felt that I did much better on details and planning. Although I feel that I could do much more better in somethings, but other than that I felt that I did an amazing job.
